Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the largest wine-producing area in France. Best known for producing Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends from its long and complicated classification system of 1855, Bordeaux can be broken down into subregions or communes of which there are thirty-seven in total. These are determined by the river Gironde and its estuaries. The main white varieties are Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, which are used to make dry white wines but more importantly they produce the famous sweet wines of Sauternes and Barsac.
