Merlot wines are known for their easy drinkability and fresh fruit-forward style with lower tannins than in other red wine varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Produced in many countries including the US, France, Italy, South Africa and Chile, Merlot is an extremely popular and versatile wine. In France however it is considered a distinguished grape where is is used in many of their famous Bordeaux blends, most importantly in St. Emilion and Pomerol.
