Black raspberry red color. Complex with black fruit aromas (black cherry and black currant) some chocolate and toasty notes. Explosive black berry and pomegranate-like flavors with perfectly matched tannins that give the wine a long, lasting aftertaste. A treat to drink now and will age well for 7-10 years.

Crisp and vibrant. A juicy mouthful of blueberry and plum flavors, with a black pepper note and a pleasing minerality to the finish that give this distinction. Best from 2009 through 2016.

The 2005 Syrah de Malakoff is a top selection from the Pyrenees sector of Australia. It exhibits superb depth and richness in its smoky, camphor, black pepper, violet, and black currant-scented and flavored personality. Deep and rich, with good acidity, ripe tannin, a hint of minerals, and impressive balance, concentration, and intensity, it was obviously made from extremely low yields. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 15+ years. This wine is to be released in 2007.

A deft, expressive Shiraz, with a remarkably open texture that floats over just enough acidity to keep this refreshing and impeccably balanced. The flavors center on smoky, licorice-scented black cherry and mineral. Not like many other Aussie reds. Best from 2009 through 2015.

More serious, backward, and formidably endowed, the 2005 Shiraz Lieu dit Malakoff reveals notions of damp earth interwoven with plum, black raspberry, cherry, and currant fruit. Medium-bodied, pure, and elegant with good acidity. It will require 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 10-12 years.

Although this wine is clearly darker and more intensely concentrated than its little sibling, with more capacity for aging, it's also more stern and less pretty. Blueberry and plum fruit is set off by savory spice and meat notes, with firm tannins and the potential to evolve through 2015 or beyond.

The plummy fruit of this wine saturates its tannin; They build together in a mountain-grown intensity that leaves an expansive impression in the end. The core of the wine is juicy and rich, the structure fine enough to feel silky. Even though the tannins last beyond the fruit for now, their earthy length sustains the wine and should release its complexities with several years of bottle age.

Dark ruby. Classic syrah bouquet of dark berries, underbrush, flowers and minerals, with Asian spice and oak notes adding complexity. Powerful blackberry and cassis flavors are enlivened by zesty minerality and framed by firm but harmonious tannins. Picks up a hint of candied licorice on the long, juicy finish. There's more than a suggestion of the northern Rhone here.

Boasts sumptuously concentrated fruit (blackberries, cherries) in addition to melted licorice, espresso roast, and smoke characteristics. Ripe, opulent, and medium to full-bodied, if this delicious 2004 gets into the bottle without being fined or filtered (Chapoutier rarely fines or filters), it will be a lusty Australian blockbuster to enjoy during its first 7-10 years of life.

Much better colour than the Central Victorian Shiraz; radically different, bright plum, cherry and blackberry fruit; good tannin support and a nice touch of oak.

From a new partnership between Hermitage winegrower Michel Chapoutier and U.S. importer and vintner Tony Terlato, chairman of Paterno Wines International, comes this bright and juicy red, immensely appealing for its fresh blueberry, raspberry and dense, dark chocolate overtones, lingering on the superfine, polished finish. Best from 2007 through 2016.

Inky ruby. Lush, perfumed and sweet on the nose, with ripe creme de cassis, blackberry and candied plum aromas joined by suggestions of cigar box, cured meat and licorice. Broad and sweet, the weighty dark berry and ripe plum flavors showing a smoky streak. The fruit expands and deepens on the finish, which features supple tannins and subtle mineral notes that lift the fruit. Pretty suave juice.

Two of the wine world's stalwarts get together in Australia to give us this one; yummy black raspberry fruit, firm acid structure and a lengthy, complex finish.
