Deep magenta with black hues. Red to black fruit characters of raspberries and red currants intermingle with darker cherry-like chocolate aromas. Subtle black pepper and smoky notes, graphite and scorched earth add complexity. The palate opens gently with refined definition, nicely accentuated by a solid core of fruit weight without heaviness. The acid balance supports the very long but fine tannins.

A wine of finesse, this strikes an enticing balance between crisp tannins and the supple, generous texture underneath, sporting gorgeous blueberry, blackberry and plum fruit that picks up hints of red pepper and garrigue as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2016.

Bright and juicy with pure, linear cherry and red-raspberry fruit in lovely balance; racy, long and supple.

This vintage represents a significant step up for this cooler climate red. Beautifully balanced and harmonious, this distinctive wine offers mineral-accented pure plum and blackberry flavors, hinting at violets and earth as the finish sails on and on. Tannins are present but smoothly integrated, a wine of great promise. Drink now through 2015.

Moving up in price as well as quality are the firms regional expressions of Shiraz, all of which can be unhesitatingly recommended. From Heathcote, the 2004 Shiraz Maxs Garden is Two Hands most restrained, European-styled Shiraz. It possesses firm tannin along with hints of wet stone overlaid with red and black fruits, and good acidity."

A bold, attractive nose of blueberry, cherry, spice, raspberry plus some coffee and cedar. The palate is quite restrained with the fruit richness balanced against some savory characters. The initial wave of flavor trails off slightly toward the finish. Quite good structure overall. It is going to be drinking at its best over the next couple of years.
