This grape is synonymous with white wine. It is one of the most popular and widely grown varietals. It puts France's Burgundy region on the white wine map; most abundant in the northern region of Chablis. Common it may be, but a commoner it is not- this white wine is fortified with the structure to employ oak aging. You'll find most Chard drinkers mumbling pretentiously about green apples, white flowers, pear or peach. But this is no one-trick pony; it is also often characterized as nutty, buttery and with hints of vanilla that is brought on by extended barrel aging.
