Established in 1694, Rust en Vrede is proud to be part of a remarkable three hundred year old wine tradition. Since 1977 the Engelbrecht family has specialized in the exclusive production of red wines. Proprietor Jean Engelbrecht has worked to establish Rust en Vrede as one of South Africa's premium red wine estates, with full-bodied and complex wines that reflect the uniqueness of its Helderberg terroir. The palate shows wonderful complexity with juicy, fruit driven flavors that integrate with smooth, velvety tannins to create a bold yet elegant finish.
Matured for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels with medium toast. The wine undergoes bottle maturation for a further 9 months before being released.
Primary fermentation took 7 days, followed by 14-21 days maceration. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrels.
