Overview
The centerpiece of the portfolio, GAJA Barbaresco is a testament to the Gaja family's historic commitment to the appellation and its belief that Barbaresco stands proudly with the great growing regions of the world. The GAJA winery stopped sourcing fruit from other growers in 1961 in order to ensure the utmost quality in its wines. In all, GAJA Barbaresco is produced using grapes grown in 14 vineyards in the villages of Barbaresco and Treiso. Each vintage of GAJA Barbaresco is the faithful expression of the production year and is suitable for a long bottle ageing. 2018 is a vintage of red grapes with thick skins, soft tannins and complex flavors.
Aging
The grapes are blended and further age in oak for another 12 months.
Fermentation
The grapes, coming from each single vineyard, separately undergo fermentatino, maceration & ageing in oak for 12 months.

2019 Barbaresco opens with violet, notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and a little hint of Tarocco (Italian blood orange).
Taste
On the palate, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannins and an expressive and lingering finish, woven together with fresh and balanced acidity. The finish is long with ripe red fruits and hints of leather and tea leaves.
