Overview
Il Poggione is one of the most highly regarded Brunello di Montalcino producers with a rich history and reputation for stylistic consistency. Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is produced only in the best years and in limited quantities. This wine comes exclusively from “I Paganelli” vineyard, planted in 1964 on an alluvial terrace. It is the oldest vineyard on the Il Poggione estate and one of Montalcino’s oldest crus. Facing East-West and trained with the “double-overturned” method, these vines are often used for sourcing Sangiovese clones when new vineyards are planted. The vineyard is well known for producing top quality grapes which are picked by individual selection of the best and ripest bunches.
Aging
4 years in 30-50 hectoliter French oak barrels, followed by a long period of bottle aging.
Fermentation
20 days submerged cap fermentation at controlled temperatures of 25-28°C.
